Countermarche NOT Marching
All seems ready to weave but I’m not able to get the loom moving correctly. All the jacks seem to be locked flat. I’m getting a good shed with the tabby treadles so I don’t think there are threading errors locking things up.
I’m new to countermarch, so debugging this is annoying, since I don’t really know what I’m doing. I tied up the treadles before warping to make sure I knew how it was supposed to work, and it seemed fine then. The proper shafts were moving with each treadle. Now if I press a treadle down all the other ones lift, and the jacks don’t move. (Yes I’ve pulled the locking pins.
Things got a bit jumbled when I dropped the jack box down to beam the warp, but I thought it was all sorted. I think I’m at the point where I need to remove all the tie up cords and re-do it, but aiyiyi. 12 shafts x 14 treadles. *cry* It took me about 6 hours to figure it out and tie it up the first time. So Many Snitch Knots.
Any suggestions for things to look at before I untie and re-tie all the treadles would be welcomed.
I’m also not able to throw the shuttle across the warp without it dropping through. This is the first loom I’ve used that doesn’t have a shuttle race so I don’t know if I’m just having a hard time learning a new thing or if there’s something fundamentally wrong with the setup. I threw about 10 picks and the shuttle dropped through every time.
